Annie Lennox, OBE, is a Scottish recording artist, singer-songwriter, political activist, and philanthropist who was born on December 25, 1954, in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. In the 1970s, she studied flute and piano for three years at the Royal Academy of Music in London. She achieved minor or moderate success in the late 1970s as part of the new wave band the Tourists. Following her time in the band, she went on to achieve major international success in the 1980s as part of the duo Eurythmics, which she formed with fellow musician and former Tourists member David A. Stewart, also known as Dave Stewart. In the 1990s, she began her solo career with her debut album Diva in 1992, featuring hit singles including Why and Walking on Broken Glass.
