Martin James Landau was born on June 20, 1928, in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA, and died on July 15, 2017, at the age of 89. He was an American actor, acting coach, producer, and editorial cartoonist whose career began in the 1950s. His early film appearances included a supporting role in Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest in 1959. On television, he played regular roles in the series Mission: Impossible, receiving several Emmy Award nominations and a Golden Globe Award, and Space: 1999. Landau also received the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture and his first nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Tucker: The Man and His Dream in 1988, alongside a second Oscar nomination.
