Overview

Wanted: Dead or Alive is an American Western television series that aired on CBS from 1958 to 1961. The show starred Steve McQueen as Josh Randall, a bounty hunter who travels the Old West in search of fugitives. It was produced in black and white and originated as a spin-off from a March 1958 episode of the western series Trackdown, which starred Robert Culp. Both shows were produced by Four Star Television in association with CBS Television. The series ran for three seasons and helped establish McQueen as a major television star. His performance on the show marked his transition into becoming one of the leading actors of his generation, eventually achieving comparable success in feature films. The program's format centered on Randall's pursuit of wanted criminals, often showcasing his resourcefulness and determination in tracking down dangerous individuals across the frontier. As a standalone series, it contributed to the popularity of the Western genre during the late 1950s and early 1960s.
