J.K. Simmons is an American actor born Jonathan Kimble Simmons on January 9, 1955, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. He has appeared in over 200 film and television roles since his debut in 1986. Notable film credits include J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, B.R. in Thank You for Smoking, Mac MacGuff in Juno, Terence Fletcher in Whiplash, and Bill in La La Land. His portrayal of the perfectionist music instructor in Whiplash earned him an Academy Award, along with other major accolades including BAFTA, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, and Critics Choice Awards. Simmons studied music at the University of Montana before pursuing acting.
