At age 18, she received a scholarship to the Lou Conte Dance Studio in Chicago, beginning her performance career as both a dancer and an actress.
Edwards portrayed the character Hayley Benson on the NBC daytime drama Santa Barbara from 1986 to 1988. Later, she joined the main cast of the medical drama Chicago Hope, playing Dr. Lisa Catera for two seasons from 1997 to 1999.
