Mary Rose Byrne is an Australian actress born on July 24, 1979, in Balmain, Sydney. She is the daughter of Jane, a primary school administrator, and Robin Byrne, a semi-retired statistician and market researcher. Throughout a career spanning three decades, she has established herself as a versatile performer capable of transitioning between various genres, including historical epics, horror, and comedy. Byrne has been in a long-term relationship with American actor Bobby Cannavale since 2012. Known for her extensive body of work, she holds 108 known acting credits. She is recognized for her contributions to both Australian and international film and television, maintaining a consistent presence in the industry since her teenage years.

Byrne made her screen debut at age 15 in the 1994 film Dallas Doll. Throughout the 1990s, she appeared in various Australian television productions, including Echo Point in 1995 and Wildside in 1997. She also starred in the 1999 film Two Hands. Her first leading film role came in the 2000 production The Goddess of 1967, a performance that earned her the Volpi Cup for Best Actress.
