Like Mrs. Dau, after being discovered to have bone marrow dysplasia syndrome in 2020, Mrs. Pham Thi Tinh (born in 1962, from Hoa Binh) also had to have continuous blood transfusions. Some days, she had to transfuse 6-7 units of blood.

“My husband is seriously ill, I am the main breadwinner in the house. To feed my children, I need to make every effort to live. Luckily, thanks to the red blood of the community, I can continue to live. Really not.” There are no words to express my gratitude for the drops of blood that blood donors have given,” Ms. Tinh shared.

At the press conference, Mr. Le Xuan Son, Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper, Head of the Red Sunday Organizing Committee shared that from a small blood donation event, Red Sunday has spread into a large blood donation movement.

In the first year of organization, Red Sunday only received 96 units of blood. Up to now, 40-50 provinces/cities have participated, continuously accompanying tens of thousands of blood units received each time it is launched.

For the first time, Red Sunday surpassed the 50,000 blood unit mark in 2020, followed by exceeding the 60,000 blood unit mark in 2021.

In recent years, each Red Sunday has had the participation of 40 – 50 provinces/cities and dozens of large units and businesses with about 100 festivals across the country, receiving an average of about 55,000 units of blood. .

“The program has brought the spirit of voluntary blood donation to many places, spreading the movement “Donate blood to save lives”. Among the many good deeds that each person can do in life, there is no act as noble as extending one’s arm to give a drop of blood, giving the warmth of sharing.

A few days ago at the rare blood festival at Van Hien University, 1,200 students waiting in line to donate blood had to leave because the Organizing Committee had received 500 units of blood.
