Overview
The Powerpuff Girls is an American animated superhero television series created by animator Craig McCracken for Cartoon Network. The program focuses on three kindergarten-aged girls named Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup who possess extraordinary superpowers. Along with their father, a brainy scientist named Professor Utonium, the girls reside in the fictional city of Townsville, USA. Throughout the series, the trio is frequently called upon by the town’s naive and childlike mayor to defend their home. The girls work to save the city from various threats, including monsters, would-be conquerors, and other criminals. The show was produced by Hanna-Barbera until 2001, at which point Cartoon Network Studios assumed production responsibilities. The series originally premiered in 1998 and concluded in 2004. The voice cast for the program includes Cathy Cavadini, Elizabeth Daily, Tara Strong, and Tom Kenny.
