Fred Foy, who had previously served as both narrator and announcer for the radio series starting in 1948, transitioned to the role of announcer for the television version once the practice of story narration was discontinued. The series achieved significant success during the early 1950s, becoming the first true hit for the ABC network and maintaining its status as the highest-rated television program on that channel during that period.
