Overview

The Beverly Hillbillies is an American television sitcom created by Paul Henning that aired on CBS from 1962 to 1971. The series follows the story of Jed Clampett, whose swamp land is found to be rich with oil. After selling the property to the O.K. Oil Company, Jed and his family relocate from their backwoods home to a 35-room mansion in Beverly Hills, California, at the urging of his cousin Pearl. The program features an ensemble cast including Buddy Ebsen, Irene Ryan, Donna Douglas, and Max Baer Jr. as the members of the Clampett family. Throughout the series, the nouveau-riche family navigates their new life and shakes up the privileged society of their wealthy neighbors with their hayseed ways. Episodes of the show include titles such as Pygmalion and Elly and Jed Saves the Drysdales' Marriage. The series remains a notable example of American television comedy from the 1960s and 1970s, documenting the culture clash between the family and their new environment.
