The program depicts the experiences of childhood and adolescence during the 1950s and early 1960s. The show stars Jerry Mathers as the Beaver, Barbara Billingsley and Hugh Beaumont as his parents June and Ward Cleaver, and Tony Dow as his older brother Wally. The series was created by Joe Connelly, Bob Mosher, and Dick Conway. CBS first broadcast the show on October 4, 1957, but dropped it after one season, after which ABC picked it up for the remainder of its run. The show has attained iconic status in the United States, with the Cleaver family frequently cited as an example of an idealized suburban family from the mid-20th century.
