Overview

T. J. Hooker is an American police procedural television series that aired on ABC from 1982 to 1985. The show stars William Shatner in the title role of Sergeant Thomas Jefferson Hooker, a seasoned police officer with fifteen years of experience. Rather than pursuing a supervisory position, Hooker chooses to remain on patrol and mentor new recruits. The series follows his work alongside younger partners as they confront serious crime in their city. Rick Husky created the program, which premiered as a mid-season replacement. During its run, the show featured Hooker's partnership with rookie Vince Romano. The series depicts the weekly challenges faced by law enforcement officers in urban settings. It ran for multiple seasons before concluding in 1985. Shatner's portrayal of the tough yet principled sergeant became a defining element of the series. The show was part of ABC's lineup during the early 1980s and contributed to the network's television programming of that era.
