Richard Thomas Herd Jr. was an American actor born on September 26, 1932, in Boston, Massachusetts, and died on May 26, 2020. He began his career on the New York stage before moving into film and television roles from the 1970s through the 2010s. His film debut was a minor role as a television presenter in the 1970 film Hercules in New York. Herd appeared in numerous supporting, recurring, and guest roles across television. Well known within the science fiction community, he played the Visitors Supreme Commander, John, in the 1983 NBC miniseries V and its 1984 sequel, V: The Final Battle. His other major television roles included recurring parts on seaQuest DSV, Star Trek: Voyager, and Seinfeld.
