Overview

Late Night with David Letterman is an American television comedy talk show that was broadcast by NBC. Created and hosted by David Letterman, the program served as the first installment of the Late Night franchise. The show featured interviews with famous guests and included appearances by Paul Shaffer, Bill Wendell, and Stephen Hibbert. The series premiered on February 1, 1982, and aired until June 25, 1993. Following the conclusion of the series, David Letterman moved to host the Late Show on CBS. The time slot previously occupied by Late Night with David Letterman was subsequently filled by Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Later, the slot was filled by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and it was scheduled to be filled by Seth Meyers in the spring of 2014 after Fallon became the host of The Tonight Show. The program is recognized as a popular late-night comedy and talk show that established a long-running format for the network.
