Eddie Murphy is an American actor and comedian born on April 3, 1961, in Brooklyn, New York. He gained prominence as a cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1980 to 1984 and became one of the highest-grossing actors in film history. Known for his comedic roles, he received Golden Globe nominations for performances in 48 Hrs., Beverly Hills Cop, Trading Places, and The Nutty Professor. In 2007, he won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor. Murphy also pursued stand-up comedy, ranking tenth on Comedy Central's list of greatest stand-ups. His films include Eddie (1996), co-starring Whoopi Goldberg.
