In the ninth episode of the fifth season, the drama of the Princeton‑Plainsboro Teaching Hospital moves from the diagnostic ward to the corridors of power. A man who has been waiting in the clinic’s waiting room enters Cuddy’s office armed with a firearm. He takes Dr. Gregory House, Dr. Remy “Thirteen” Hadley, and a number of other patients who were in the waiting area hostage. The intruder declares that he suffers from a prolonged, undiagnosed illness and insists that the hospital’s most skilled diagnostician—House—must attend to him immediately. He makes clear that he is prepared to kill any of the hostages if his demand is not met.
