Overview

City Hunter is a Japanese anime television series based on the manga of the same name by Tsukasa Hojo. Produced by Sunrise, the program aired on Yomiuri TV, Nippon Television, and their affiliates starting on April 6, 1987. The series follows the adventures of Ryo Saeba, a gun-for-hire living in the Tokyo metropolis. Ryo works as a sweeper who takes on dangerous jobs, often preferring assignments that involve beautiful women. He is assisted by his sidekick, Kaori Makimura, who helps him navigate his professional life. When not working on a case, Ryo frequently pursues romantic interests, a habit that Kaori manages by using a 10 kilogram hammer to keep him in check. In his line of work, Ryo utilizes a Colt Python to resolve the problems brought to him by his clients. The series is recognized for its distinct 1980s aesthetic and its original soundtrack. The production ran from 1987 until 1991, featuring voice performances from Akira Kamiya, Kazue Ikura, Yoko Asagami, and Tessho Genda.
