According to Mr. Hieu, 2024 is a milestone marking an important development project when the city completes 20 years of central government. After 20 years of formation and development, the Party Committee, government and people of Can Tho City have experienced rapid development, creating a solid foundation for a new stage of development.
Notably, the scale of the economy has expanded, contributing to the overall development of the Mekong Delta and the whole country. By 2023, the total product value in the area will reach more than 118,000 billion VND (10.2 times higher than in 2004). Gross product per capita (GRDP) in 2023 reaches 94.7 million VND (9.2 times higher than in 2004, about 4,000 USD/person/year), contributing to improving the quality of life of city residents.
The economic structure is shifting in the right direction, developing industry, trade and services, gradually reducing the proportion of the agricultural sector. The export turnover of goods increased sharply, the trade and service sectors developed rapidly and diversified, playing a key role in the GRDP structure, gradually establishing a central role in the Mekong Delta region.
Can Tho City’s financial resources are promoted, revenue generated from production and business activities plays an increasingly important role, creating initiative and increasing the stability of the state budget.
