He is best known for his television role on the science fiction series Sliders, where he played Michael Mallory, the father of Quinn Mallory, in the pilot episode and later reprised the role in the season two episode Gillian of the Spirits. His other television credits include the television movie Hostage Rescue Team, in which he appeared as Special Agent David Nelson. Butler has also appeared in several feature films, including Renegades, Ernest Rides Again, First Target, Freddy vs. Jason, and Everything Gone Green. Throughout his career in film and television, Butler has accumulated numerous acting credits.
