Biography
Peter Vaughan, born Peter Ewart Ohm, was an English character actor recognized for his extensive work in British film, television, and stage productions. He is widely known for his portrayal of Grouty in the sitcom Porridge and its 1979 film adaptation. His television credits include a recurring role in the sitcom Citizen Smith alongside Robert Lindsay, as well as the part of Tom Franklin in Chancer. His film appearances include Tom Hedden in Straw Dogs, Winston the Ogre in Time Bandits, and Mr. Stevens, Sr. in The Remains of the Day. Vaughan concluded his career with the role of Maester Aemon in the HBO series Game of Thrones, appearing in the production between 2011 and 2015.
