Overview
Silk is a British television drama series produced by the BBC and first shown in 2011. The series was created by Peter Moffat and follows a set of barristers as they work to attain the rank of Queen's Counsel, known as 'taking silk'. The show explores the daily goings on of Shoe Lane Chambers and its members in their personal and professional lives. Passionate defence barrister Martha Costello is a key character, facing challenging cases and surprising clients that test her faith in the criminal justice system. She works alongside gifted colleague Clive Reader and pupils Nick Slade and Niamh Cranitch. The series was broadcast over three series on BBC One. The show is a drama series about life at the Bar, the dilemmas and problems that modern day barristers have to face, and what it means to become a silk.
