Biography

Mary Ellen Mala Powers was an American film actress born in San Francisco, California, on December 20, 1931. In 1940, her family relocated to Los Angeles, where her father worked as an executive for United Press. During that summer, she attended the Max Reinhardt Junior Workshop and performed in her first stage play. She continued her drama training and secured a role in the 1942 Dead End Kids film Tough as They Come. At age 16, Powers began a career in radio drama. She transitioned to film acting in 1950, appearing in her first roles that year in Outrage and Edge of Doom. Powers passed away on June 11, 2007.
