He is best known for portraying Dr. Mike Burton in the NBC sitcom Ed and for his recurring guest role as Jake in Scrubs in 2005. He was married to Claire Rankin on September 10, 2000. He has a brother named Nathan and a sister named Joanna. His father, who taught chemistry and physics at Monterey High School in Monterey, California, died of colon cancer in 1997 and was commemorated by having the school gym named after him. During his senior year at Monterey High School, Josh played basketball in that gym and served as co-editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, The Galleon.
