Overview
Scandal is an American political thriller television series created by Shonda Rhimes that aired on ABC from April 5, 2012, to April 19, 2018. The show features Kerry Washington as Olivia Pope, a former White House Communications Director and head of media relations to the President of the United States. After leaving the White House, Pope establishes her own crisis management firm to protect and defend the public images of the elite. Known as gladiators in suits, Pope and her team specialize in keeping the secrets of their clients under wraps. While they are highly effective at fixing the lives of others, they struggle to resolve the complications within their own personal lives. When the series premiered, Washington became the first Black woman to headline a network television drama since 1974. Across its seven seasons and 124 episodes, the series explores the professional and personal challenges faced by Pope, whose work is guided by her metaphorical white hat. The series is also available for streaming on various platforms.
