Biography
Gene Evans was an American actor born on July 11, 1922, in Holbrook, Arizona, and raised in Colton, California. He began his acting career during World War II while performing with a theatrical troupe of GIs in Europe. Evans made his film debut in 1947 and went on to appear in dozens of movies and television programs throughout his career. He was known for specializing in roles portraying tough characters, including cowboys, sheriffs, convicts, and sergeants. Evans frequently collaborated with Samuel Fuller, appearing in numerous films written, directed, and produced by him. This partnership began in 1950 when Fuller cast Evans in the Korean War film The Steel Helmet. Gene Evans died on April 1, 1998.
