He was trained at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, earned his BA in theatre at San Francisco State University, and helped establish a summer theatre company in the Sierra Nevadas. He subsequently earned an MFA in acting at UC San Diego. Before beginning his professional acting career, Collison worked as a forest fire fighter, a diaper service dispatcher, and a substitute teacher. Having appeared in over 150 productions, he has worked off Broadway and in regional theaters in Boston, Denver, and California. His theatrical roles have ranged from Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream to Miss Havisham in Great Expectations.
