Eve Arden was an American film, radio, stage, and television actress. Born Eunice Mary Quedens on April 30, 1908, just north of San Francisco in Mill Valley, California, she showed an interest in show business from an early age. At age 16, she quit school to join a stock company and made her stage debut. After appearing in minor roles in two films under her real name, she found the stage offered similar minor roles. By the mid-1930s, she changed her name to Eve Arden, and one of her minor roles attracted notice as a comedy sketch in the stage play Ziegfeld Follies. In 1937, she attracted further attention with a small role in Oh, Doctor. She died on November 12, 1990, at the age of 82.
