Biography
Edgar Buchanan was an American actor born on March 20, 1903, in Humansville, Missouri, to Rose and William Edgar Buchanan Sr. He relocated to Oregon with his family at age seven. His father, a dentist in Eugene, encouraged him to pursue a career in dentistry. Buchanan eventually established a long career in both film and television. He is most recognized for his portrayal of Uncle Joe Carson in the 1960s sitcoms Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, and The Beverly Hillbillies. Within the narrative of Petticoat Junction, his character became the proprietor of the Shady Rest Hotel after the death of Kate Bradley, who was played by Bea Benaderet. Buchanan died on April 4, 1979.
