Christian Charles Philip Bale is an English actor born on January 30, 1974, in Pembrokeshire, Wales, to English parents Jennifer James and David Bale. His father was a commercial pilot, and his mother worked as a circus performer. Bale achieved early recognition with his breakthrough role at age 13 in Steven Spielberg's 1987 war film Empire of the Sun. He later gained wider acclaim for his performances in American Psycho and The Dark Knight trilogy, among other films. Known for his versatility and physical transformations, Bale has received numerous awards, including an Academy Award and two Golden Globe Awards. In 2014, Forbes ranked him among the highest-paid actors.
