She began her career as the lead singer of The Shirts, a band that headlined CBGB in the late seventies. While with the group, she was discovered by Milos Forman, who gave her a part in the film Hair. In the early nineties, she performed in the duo Golden Carillo alongside Frank Carillo, releasing three albums titled Fire in Newtown, Toxic Emotion, and Back for More, before eventually returning to The Shirts. She has also performed solo and with a band, presenting a revue of original songs and tracks from her stage career titled Annie Golden's Velvet Prison. Additionally, she has held featured television roles on Cheers and Miami Vice.
