Alicia Roanne Witt is an American actress, singer-songwriter, and pianist. Born on August 21, 1975, in Worcester, Massachusetts, United States, she was described as a child prodigy for talking by age two and reading by age four. Director David Lynch discovered her acting talent after hearing her recite Shakespeare on the television show That's Incredible! at age five, leading to her role as Alia in the 1984 film Dune, which she filmed before turning eight. Lynch continued working with her in film and television before she earned her high school equivalency credential at age 14. She also did undergraduate work in piano at Boston University and competed nationally. Witt has amassed 91 known acting credits in movies and television shows.
