A new synthetic opioid is now being linked to a growing number of overdose deaths in the United States.
According to this report, a drug called cychlorphine has been tied to at least 16 overdose deaths in East Tennessee in just the past few months. Preliminary toxicology reports indicate the substance has been appearing in fatal overdoses since late 2025 and continues to spread.
What makes this especially dangerous?
• Officials say the drug may be about 10 times more potent than fentanyl.
• In some cases, multiple doses of Narcan may be required to reverse an overdose.
• Like many synthetic drugs, it can appear suddenly in street supplies without users even knowing it’s there.
This is the terrifying reality of the modern drug landscape: new synthetic substances are constantly emerging faster than the public health system can track them.
Families often assume their loved one is using the “same drug as before.” But today’s drug supply is unpredictable and increasingly lethal.
When addiction hijacks the brain, people rarely ask for help. Families often have to take action before it’s too late.
In many cases, that means using legal tools such as the Marchman Act, guardianship, or the Baker Act to intervene and get someone into treatment when they cannot make that decision for themselves.

If your loved one is spiraling and traditional approaches have failed, doing nothing is not a plan.
