Coach Gong Oh-kyun escaped punishment from VFF
The match between Nam Dinh Green Steel and CAHN Club in round 5 of V.League 2023/2024 taking place at Thien Truong Stadium was dramatic, attractive and highly professional. CAHN Club took a 2-0 lead when successfully taking advantage of a mistake by the Nam Dinh Blue Steel defense. At the end of the match, Nam Dinh Green Steel rose strongly and thanks to Rafaelson’s brilliance, they scored 2 consecutive goals to close the match with a 2-2 draw, thereby continuing to lead the rankings.

However, this match also had ripples with an ugly image between Coach Gong Oh-kyun on the CAHN Club side and Tran Van Kien on the Nam Dinh Green Steel side. Specifically, when the score was 1-0 in favor of the away team, Tran Van Kien had bad behavior when he swung his hand at coach Gong Oh-kyun’s chest in a situation that took place outside the touchline. Suddenly receiving a blow from the former defender of Hanoi FC, the Korean strategist could not keep calm, even wanting to lose enough with the factor born in 1996. That is considered an unprecedented image since Former captain of U23 Vietnam. It is known that after this situation, both immediately received a yellow card warning from referee Nguyen Dinh Thai.
On the afternoon of December 11, the V.League organizer – Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) held a meeting and determined that referee Nguyen Dinh Thai handled the yellow card correctly. But they at the same time asked the Disciplinary Committee of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to additionally punish coach Gong Oh-kyun and Tran Van Kien for “affecting the overall image of the tournament”.

At noon on December 13, the VFF Disciplinary Committee issued penalties for violations in round 5 of V.League 2023/2024. However, there is no disciplinary action for coach Gong Oh-kyun and Tran Van Kien. According to information obtained by PV Dan Viet, the VFF Disciplinary Committee assessed that coach Gong Oh-kyun and Tran Van Kien being given yellow cards during the match was a reasonable penalty, so they only issued a warning.
