Some golden routes from Ho Chi Minh City have nearly “sold out” Tet air tickets
Lunar New Year 2024 is less than a month away, the situation of airfare prices, number of flights… is a hot issue of concern to many workers in Ho Chi Minh City.
The Vietnam Aviation Administration said that compared to the early period of January 2024, airlines have added 472 flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to local airports. This number corresponds to nearly 92,155 seats, to meet the travel needs of passengers.
On January 14, Dan Viet’s survey showed that Tet air tickets for some golden routes from Ho Chi Minh City connecting localities such as Thanh Hoa, Vinh, Hanoi… were added by airlines. In particular, many flights at night and early morning have opened for ticket sales, helping passengers have more choices. However, airfare prices are still at sky-high levels.
For example, flight tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi on February 4, 2024 (December 25) of Vietnam Airlines have 35 flights open for sale. There are many flights at night such as 2:35 a.m., 3:25 a.m., 3:45 a.m. Most of the night flights still have regular tickets priced at 3.5 million VND. Meanwhile, flights during the best hours of the day (morning, noon and afternoon) have sold out of regular tickets, with only business tickets remaining at a price of nearly 10 million VND/ticket.

Meanwhile, on the same flight route, Vietjet Air has a larger number of tickets for sale with a series of night flights being operated. Most flights have all ticket classes available.
Accordingly, the airline’s flight ticket price from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi is priced at 3.4 million for Eco ticket class (no checked baggage); 3.8 million for economy class and 4.6 million for Skyboss class.
Another representative, Bamboo Airways, is selling the above flight for 3.4-3.5 million/economy ticket and 8-9.5 million/business ticket (depending on time frame). Night and early morning flights have lower prices than flights during good times of the day.

Notably, on golden routes from Ho Chi Minh City to Thanh Hoa and Vinh (Nghe An), the air ticket situation is quite tense for all airlines. Most of the flights still available for sale are quite limited and economy class tickets are almost sold out.
Accordingly, Vietnam Airlines on February 4, 2024 (December 25) only has 2 flights open for sale, including flights in the early morning hours. However, economy class tickets have been “sold out”, with only business tickets remaining for nearly 6 million VND. On the following days, a large number of flights are available for sale.
Notably, on February 7, 2024 (ie December 28, the official Tet holiday according to regulations), there is only 1 flight left for sale at nearly 6 million VND/business class.
Meanwhile, on the same flight route above, Vietjet Air almost sold out flight tickets from February 4-6, 2024 (December 25 to 27). On the remaining days, there are only a few scattered flights with tickets available in the early morning hours for 3.5-4.6 million VND.
On the Ho Chi Minh City – Vinh route of Vietnam Airlines, the number of flights in the pre-Tet period is quite abundant, but no economy class tickets are available for sale. Passengers buying tickets during this period mainly take connecting flights (2 legs) for 5.3-13.3 million/depending on ticket class.
Meanwhile, this route is quite stressful for Vietjet Air as the airline has “sold out” flight tickets from February 2-7, 2024 (ie December 23 to 28). On other days close to Tet, there are still a few tickets on sale for 3.5-4.6 million VND.

According to the Vietnam Aviation Administration, during the 2024 Lunar New Year peak, airlines are expected to supply 5.5 million seats on domestic routes, an increase of 4% over the same period. On the international flight network, airlines plan to supply 2.1 million seats, an increase of 36.8% over the same period.
To better serve travel needs, recently, Vietnam Airlines Group (including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, VASCO) announced an increase of more than 100,000 seats, equivalent to nearly 550 flights. From there, bringing the total number to 2.1 million seats with 10,700 flights for the Tet peak season from January 25 to February 24, 2024 (ie from December 15, Quy Mao year to January 15, Giap Thin year). ). Bamboo Airways also announced the addition of 2 aircraft, increasing capacity to serve the peak of the New Year and Lunar New Year 2024.

Although airlines have increased their load, the Tet ticket situation on some golden routes is still quite tense. Faced with the above situation, the Aviation Administration has asked units to increase service capacity and operate more night flights.
Accordingly, the Civil Aviation Authority said that the expected demand for night operations during the Lunar New Year period in 2024 (from January 21 to February 25 in the time frame from 9:00 p.m. to 5:59 a.m.) will reach more than 1.8 thousand flights. flights, accounting for about 8% of the total number of domestic flights operated throughout the network.
Currently, people’s bookings for the 2024 Dragon Festival (from January 24, 2024 to February 25, 2024) have increased quite high. Especially in the period before the Lunar New Year, the number of tourists from Ho Chi Minh City buying tickets to the Northern and Central provinces increased sharply.
In particular, flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang, Ban Me Thuot, Hai Phong, Hue, Pleiku, Tuy Hoa, Quy Nhon, Chu Lai, Quang Binh, Quang Ninh, Vinh, Thanh Hoa have a booking rate close to like over 90%.
