Chelsea is “unmatched” in the number of away matches lost
In the League Cup semi-final first leg taking place at Riverside Stadium early this morning, Middlesbrough played poorly, but thanks to tight defense and good opportunities, coach Michael Carrick and his team excellently defeated Chelsea with a score of 1- 0. Hayden Hackney (37′) is the author of the only goal in this match.
In the early morning of January 24 (Vietnam time), the semi-final second leg between the two sides will take place at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge. With their strength, “The Blues” still has enough strength to come back to win tickets to the finals.

According to Opta statistics, since the beginning of last season, Chelsea is the Premier League club that has lost the third most matches in all competitions with 31 matches. Their achievements are only less than Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest (both lost 32 matches). “The Blues” is the team that has lost more away matches than any other opponent (21 matches).
This is the first time Chelsea has lost a match in the League Cup to a club in the lower division since October 1999 (against Huddersfield).
Middlesbrough is the first lower division team to defeat Chelsea in domestic cup competitions (FA Cup, League Cup) since Bradford won 4-2 at Stamford Bridge in January 2015. The 28-match unbeaten streak of “The Blues” has ended.
Hayden Hackney is the first Middlesbrough player to score against Chelsea since Mark Viduka in August 2006, ending a streak of 14 hours and 06 minutes without scoring a goal against “The Blues”.
Thiago Silva (39 years and 109 days) is the oldest player to start a League Cup semi-final since Ryan Giggs (MU against Sunderland 10 years and 2 days ago. At that time, Giggs was 40 years and 39 days old).
Raheem Sterling has not scored in 21 appearances in the last semi-finals for club and national team. The 29-year-old striker’s only goal in the domestic semi-final was for Liverpool (against Chelsea in 2015).
