Neon Genesis Evangelion is a Japanese anime television series created by Hideaki Anno and produced by Gainax and Tatsunoko Production. The series originally aired from 1995 to 1996. Set in a post-apocalyptic future, the story follows Shinji Ikari, a reluctant teenager who is called upon by his estranged father to pilot a bio-mechanical weapon known as an Evangelion. These machines are humanity's primary defense against monstrous beings called Angels, who seek to wipe out the human race. Shinji joins the mysterious organization NERV, where he works alongside other young pilots including Rei and Asuka to protect what remains of civilization. The series explores themes of existentialism, identity, and human connection through its complex characters and symbolic narrative.
