Overview

Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a Japanese anime television series created by the Magica Quartet and animated by the studio Shaft. The series, which premiered in 2011, consists of 12 episodes. The story centers on Madoka Kaname, an eighth-grade student at Mitakihara Middle School who lives a life with her family and friends. Her ordinary life changes following a magical encounter that alters her destiny. Alongside her friend Sayaka, Madoka is approached by a creature named Kyubey. This entity offers them a wish in exchange for a contract to become magical girls. By accepting this offer, the girls gain the responsibility of fighting abstract beings known as witches. While these powers offer new abilities, the series explores the grave consequences that these contracts carry for the girls and those they love. The show is also known simply as Madoka Magica and features voice performances by actors including Aoi Yuki, Chiwa Saito, Emiri Kato, and Cristina Valenzuela. The production credits for the series include creators Ume Aoki, Atsuhiro Iwakami, Akiyuki Shinbo, and Gen Urobuchi.
