While the manga was being published, a parallel version drawn by Gosaku Ota was produced and released during the same period as the television adaptation. The anime television series aired on Fuji TV beginning in December 1972 and concluded in September 1974, delivering action‑adventure, animation, and science‑fiction elements to its audience. In the United States the series was briefly marketed under the title Tranzor Z.
