Overview

Mare is a television series released in 2015 that follows the life of an elementary school student. The story begins when the protagonist and her family relocate from the city to a fishing village in Noto shortly before her father faces bankruptcy. Upon arriving in the village, the family rents a home from a couple who operate a salt pond. While the father attempts to launch a new business venture, it ultimately fails, leaving the mother to support the family by working at the salt pond. Eight years later, the protagonist approaches her high school graduation and chooses to pursue a career with the Wajima local government. Her decision is driven by a desire for professional stability, which she contrasts with the instability experienced by her father. In her new role, she is responsible for providing support to individuals who relocate to the Noto region. The series documents the family's transition to a new life and the protagonist's subsequent efforts to establish a secure future for herself.
