KochiKame is a television series based on a long-running work by creator Osamu Akimoto. The title serves as a shortened version of Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen Mae Hashutsujo. The narrative centers on Ryotsu Kankichi, an unconventional and lazy police officer stationed in the Kameari area. Ryotsu is known for his constant pursuit of money and his tendency to devise various get-rich-quick schemes that frequently backfire. He works alongside a cast of unique characters, including his strict supervisor Police Chief Ohara, as well as Nakagawa and Reiko. Together, the group finds themselves involved in numerous hijinks. Beyond its comedic premise, the series functions as an homage to the working-class people and districts of old Tokyo. The source material for the franchise was originally penned by Akimoto in Weekly Shonen Jump, where it ran from 1976 until 2016.
