Overview
I Dream of Jeannie is an American fantasy sitcom television series created by Sidney Sheldon. The program was produced by Screen Gems and originally aired for 139 episodes between 1965 and 1970. The series stars Barbara Eden as a 2,000-year-old genie and Larry Hagman as a United States astronaut. The cast also features Bill Daily and Hayden Rorke. The premise follows an astronaut who, while on a mission, is forced to make an emergency landing on a deserted South Pacific island. There, he discovers a bottle containing the genie. Upon being rescued from the bottle, the genie pledges her total devotion to the astronaut, who becomes her master. This event changes the astronaut's life and leads to various complications. Over the course of the series, the genie falls in love with the astronaut, and the two eventually marry. The show is recognized for its premise involving the interaction between the astronaut and the magical being he accidentally liberated.
