Overview

Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. is an American situation comedy that aired on CBS from September 25, 1964, to May 2, 1969. The program functioned as a spinoff of The Andy Griffith Show, with its pilot episode airing as the finale of that series' fourth season on May 18, 1964. Over the course of its broadcast history, the show spanned five seasons and a total of 150 episodes. The series was created by Aaron Ruben, who also served as a producer alongside Sheldon Leonard and Ronald Jacobs. The production was filmed and set in California. Following the conclusion of its original run, CBS Home Entertainment began releasing the series on DVD in 2006. The final season was released in November 2008. The provided sources regarding the name Gomer focus on biblical figures, including the eldest son of Japheth and the wife of the prophet Hosea, as well as the modern usage of the term in social contexts, rather than the television series itself.
