Overview
Gintama is a Japanese animated television series that premiered in 2006. The show is set in an alternate version of Edo Period Japan where the country has been invaded by extraterrestrial beings. In this transformed world, traditional architecture and lifestyle have been replaced by modern technology including skyscrapers, trains, and motor bikes. The central character is Gintoki Sakata, who maintains the spirit and ways of a samurai despite the dramatic changes around him. He is known by the nickname Yorozuya Gin-san and operates as a jack-of-all-trades, taking on various jobs and challenges. Gintoki works alongside his companions as they navigate through the unconventional setting.
