Overview
Banana Fish is an anime television series based on the manga created by Akimi Yoshida. Produced by Fuji TV, the adaptation updates the original setting from the 1980s to the present day. The story follows a teenage gang leader in New York City named Ash Lynx, who was raised by an infamous gangster named Dino Golzine. As Ash leads his own gang, he must confront his abuser and rival groups to stop Dino from obtaining a mysterious and deadly drug known as Banana Fish, which causes insanity in those who take it. Ash is joined in his investigation by a photojournalist from Japan. Critics acclaimed the series, offering praise for its plot, dialogue, and action sequences. The original manga remains Yoshida's most commercially successful work, with over 12 million copies of collected volumes in circulation as of 2018.
