Biography
Lane Smith was an American actor born on April 29, 1936, in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. He graduated from the Leelanau School and the Hill School, and later studied at the Actors Studio in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Smith served two years in the United States Army before pursuing a career in acting. He found steady work in New York theater and made his film debut in Maidstone in 1970. Smith regularly appeared in small film roles throughout the 1970s, including in Rooster Cogburn and Network. He was recognized in the Actors Studio Hall of Fame. Smith passed away on June 13, 2005, at the age of 69.
