McMahon is of Irish and English descent. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wollongong. McMahon is known for his work in various television shows and films, including roles in Home and Away, Profiler, Charmed, Nip/Tuck, Fantastic Four, Runaways, and FBI: Most Wanted. He was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance in Nip/Tuck. McMahon passed away on July 2, 2025, at the age of 56.
