Overview
Swinging Safari is a comedy and drama film that was released in Australia on January 18, 2018, with international territories following later in the year. The film was originally titled Flammable Children, and its final title references the 1962 global hit song named A Swingin' Safari by Bert Kaempfert, which is heard on the soundtrack while its album cover also appears. Set in 1975, the story begins when a 200-ton blue whale gets washed up on a local beach, and the local children consider it the biggest event that has ever happened in Australia. Meanwhile, behind closed doors on a quiet suburban street, the mothers and fathers decide to celebrate by joining the sexual revolution and throwing a wife-swapping key party. Similar to the rotting whale stranded on the shore, the suburban plans are ultimately poised to go spectacularly wrong.
