Prior to his graduation, McGuire was a member of the Playbox Theatre Company and participated in minor radio dramas as well as Shakespearean productions. While still a drama student, he gained attention for his role in the premiere of Laura Wade's satirical play Posh, portraying a student member of the Riot Club, which is a parody of the Bullingdon Club at Oxford University.
