Jacques Deray was a French film director and screenwriter who was also known as an actor and was prominently recognized for directing many crime and thriller films. Born Jacques Desrayaud on February 19, 1929, in Lyon, France, to a family of Lyon industrialists, he went to Paris at the age of 19 to study drama under Rene Simon. From the age of 19, he played minor roles on the stage and in films. Deray passed away on August 9, 2>03, at the age of 74. Throughout his career, he had 57 known credits in directing. One of his famous films was based on the book Bandites in Marseille by Eugen Saccomano, which tells the story of real gangsters Paul Carbone and Francois Spirito during the 1930s.
