Joseph Michael Straczynski, born July 17, 1954, in Paterson, New Jersey, is an American filmmaker and comic book writer. He is the founder of Synthetic Worlds Ltd. and Studio JMS. He is known as the creator of the science fiction television series Babylon 5, which ran from 1993 to 1998, its spinoff Crusade in 1999, and the series Jeremiah, which aired from 2002 to 2004, as well as Sense8, which ran from 2015 to 2018. He is also the executor of the estate of Harlan Ellison. Straczynski wrote the psychological drama film Changeling in 2008 and was a co-writer on the martial arts thriller Ninja Assassin in 2009. He was one of the key writers for, and had a cameo in, Marvel's Thor in 2011, and worked on the horror film Underworld: Awakening in 2012.
